The last two Sundays of October (Oct 19 & 26) will see the buffet spread at Allora Ristorante & Bar at Crowne Plaza Changi Airport taking on the flavours of Bavaria. Expect to savour crispy breaded veal schnitzel, house-made spätzle with hazelnut pesto, beef roulade, slow-braised pork rib with apple sauerkraut, and not forgetting the crispy pork knuckle!
At this specially curated Oktoberfest buffet, raise your steins also to decadent Bavarian-style beer and bacon cheddar soup, the BBQ-grilled beer-marinated chicken, and lamb chops with beer and mustard marinade. Hot off the grill are also assorted sausages, currywurst, and prawns with garlic and chilli.
The Bavarian theme extends to the carving station where leberkäse, a traditional meatloaf-style sausage is sliced to order, along with slow-roasted beef rib and roasted duck breast. They are served with seasonal condiments of Bavarian mustard and cherry chocolate jus. If the going gets a bit heavy, counter with tangy salads of gurkensalat (thinly sliced cucumber with dill and light sour cream dressing) and wurstsalat, which is a sliced sausage with onion, pickles and vinegar dressing.
Apart from these German specialities, you can still head to the crowd-favourite cheese wheel pasta station and also enjoy Allora’s Italian signatures such as the one-metre pizza, Parma ham and gnocco fritto. Seafood-on-ice lovers will delight themselves with the spread of prawns, mud crabs, scallops, mussels, lobster and oysters.
What’s an Oktoberfest without the sweet endings of the iconic Black Forest cake? You can have that plus other timeless German treats such as honey bee sting cake, sachertorte, Linzer tart, plum pudding with vanilla sauce, and apple crumble tart.
