Popular tempura speciality chain Tempura Makino originating from Hyogo, Japan has opened its first overseas outpost at Suntec City. Known for offering quality tempura at affordable prices, its offerings are made to order and have a light batter (made using Okinawan egg) to showcase the quality of the ingredients.
The Singapore outlet imports and uses the same flour, dashi and dipping sauce as used in its outlets in Japan. Likewise, Tempura Makino Singapore will also serve free-flow house-made yuzu daikon.
À la carte tempura items are priced from $1.50 per piece. From the selection, diners will find some Okinawan touches such as Mozuku Tempura ($5.80) and Goya Tempura with Okinawan salt ($4.50). Other than tempura, there are also dishes of Daikon Oden ($3.80), Mentai Seaweed ($6.8) and Uni Ohba ($8.8) to be enjoyed.
The coming months will see tempura omakase menus (priced below $100) featuring seasonal specials and premium ingredients.
